THE SCENOGRAPHIC COLLEGE

The Collège Scéno des Récréâtrales is made up of artists, technicians, researchers, students, apprentices, trainees who meet at each edition to create the scenography of the festival site, equip the outdoor rooms installed in the family courtyards and support the teams. in creation and performance.

Three stages mark the “Recreatral” year:

  • In February, “La Quarantaine” brings together the researcher, the poet and his imagination. Starting from the theme sentence, he sketches his dream on the large model.
  • In June, the “Côté Cour” appeals to the imagination and the Academy becomes a feasibility study office.
  • In September, during the “Residences” the Collège Scéno multiplies to create the works of each and everyone. A beautiful teamwork where all the arts and crafts come together.

From one edition to the next, the Collège Scéno designs theatres, sets and costumes within a framework of research and training provided by the Regional Academy of Scenographic Arts (ARAS). With a concern for local development, it works in collaboration with young people and the neighborhood committee. Reflection on the sense-space-aesthetic relationship is at the heart of his actions.

At the end of La Quarantaine (creation-reflection) then Côté Cour (feasibility study), everyone’s reflections on the mode of scenographic registration in the neighborhood and everyone’s research on the resonance of the theme of the edition will lead to original projects whose assembly will constitute the metamorphosis of the “Rue des Récréâtrales”.

In many respects, the role of Collège Scéno proved to be preponderant in the adventure of Les Récréâtrales. Particularly because the scenographic art is considered here as a solid artistic device for integrating the festival into its neighborhood and as a major tool for mediation with its inhabitants. But also because it is an integral part of the Récréâtrales process and develops through its values and objectives.

The Scéno College is:

> A process. Integrating the different stages of the Récréâtrales, it offers a space-time dedicated to research – creation, training – production, then the dissemination of the works.

> Multidisciplinary. In a spirit of both transversal and specific transmission of knowledge, learning and scenographic production are available in several artistic and technical workshops: welding, painting, carpentry, sewing, sound-light-video technique.

> A place of training – professionalization. The Scéno College is designed as a space for sharing between different profiles, skill levels and areas of expertise. Throughout the course, supervisors and speakers provide training sessions and professionalization modules in the various disciplines of the scenographic arts, with apprentices and trainees.

> Pan-African & International. This large, collegially functioning machine brings together a mixed and cosmopolitan team. Both Burkinabè and international, the Collège Scéno des Récréâtrales, supported by ARAS, has a network of collaborators. As such, it grows each year by welcoming members of partner structures: Face-O-Scéno (Burkina Faso) – Case-O-Scéno (Togo) – Place-O-Scéno (Benin) – The Theater Festival of the Realities of Acte Sept (Mali) – The National School of Visual Arts of La Cambre (Belgium) and since 2016, The Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin (Strasbourg, France)

> A local development art project.

– at the level of the inhabitants, 30 volunteers, selected from the voluntary applications of young people from the district, are integrated and trained by the Collège Scéno at each edition.

– at the level of the district, transforming its environment into an artistic zone, the Collège Scéno is an essential means of implementing the project in its district. Its territory of intervention is complex and immense, since it goes from the public space of the street, to the passage of the doors opening, towards and until the intimacy of the family courtyards.
